When thinking about long-term survival planning when the first things to consider is where would you live, if a longer-term situation negatively affects you? (job loss, economic downturn, war or rioting, radiation, etc.) We generally consider a longer-term situation to be anything that lasts longer than 6 to 9 months
Ask yourself ‘where should I live, if I have to face a long-term survival situation?’
If the answer to that question is not where you’re living right now, you might want to consider moving to somewhere else.
It really helps to ask, ‘should I move or should I stay where I am right now?’ Consider your options and environment and pay attention to how you feel about either moving or staying where you are.
It’s good to use your common sense and trust your instincts, listen to that little voice inside of you that knows what’s right for you and then follow it. You need to do what’s best for you and your family even if other people disagree with you.
It’s important to make that decision now, so that you can plan for it and be prepared. (Remember that, just like with your short-term emergency planning its good to have an alternate backup plan just in case.).
Plan your long-term supplies.
Find out what and how much food, water, and supplies you’ll need to last at least one year without outside help.

Break it down into manageable chunks.
Make a list, write down:
- What do you need?
- How much do need total for a year?
- How much will it cost?
- How much can I afford to spend on long-term preparedness each month?
- How many months, will it take to complete my year supply?
Then write down what you’re going to buy each month for every month that it’s going to take you to reach that goal and start getting those supplies each month.
